ResQ Online

Restoration Quarterly is the name of a 50-year old academic journal. It's written and read mostly by scholars and preachers from Churches of Christ. Every time a new issue shows up in my mailbox, I want to read it cover to cover. Right then. Few other publications are that important to me. Anyway, for a long, long time RQ was available only in print. More recently, some of its content from the past half century has been made available online. Check it out.

How much is a subscription? I didn't see that on the site. Is it good scholarship, or does it veer hard into traditionalism?

Adam, when you go to the link in this post, one of the buttons at the top of the page is "Subscribe." I know, when you click there you don't immediately find out what the prices are. But I looked around and found out that, for new subscribers in the U.S., the price is $15.00 a year. For home delivery of RQ, that's a bargain.

About your other question, I would say that RQ represents Christian scholarship among Churches of Christ at its best. As such, it functions as an antidote to traditionalism within this group, while holding on to and honoring the real strengths of the tradition now known as the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement. That function seems to have been one of the original intentions of the journal. If you attended one of larger Christian colleges affiliated with the CofC, then you would find some of your Bible teachers among the list of contributors.

To get a taste, check out some of the classic content online.

Frank,

Wow, that is a bargain. By comparison, Stone-Campbell Journal is $25 a year in the U.S.

I studied at Harding, and I have a post in the queue for later this month to explain my "affiliation." :-)

Thanks for the info...again!

If you like S-C Journal, then you'll like RQ as well. The two are much more like each other than they're like any other publications. RQ is just older.
